The Best Mother's Day Gift EVER

11:37:00 AM

Mother's Day is coming up, so I wanted to put together a little post all about my mom. Those of you that know her, or at least know of her, know that she's one fab lady. Here's an interview that's all about her life as a mom and a look at her favorite mother's day gift ever!

1.     Did you always want kids? How many?
When I was a child, if anyone asked me, I remember saying I wanted to have 3 kids when I grew up.  Pretty sure that was because I was one of three kids growing up, or maybe I had three dolls I was playing with at the time. Once I was old enough to actually know what I was talking about the line became “I’ll see how the first one goes and let you know.”
2.     What made you decide to finally have kids?
I was never one of those women who felt a burning maternal urge to have a baby but I knew I wanted to have them some day.  I got married when I was 23 and we dated for three years before that so by the time I was 27 it just seemed right.  I also realized we could spend our life waiting for the absolute right time to make the leap so you just have to go for it at some point.
3.     What was it like to become a mom?
Joyous. Exhausting. Wondrous. Terrifying. Exciting. Scary. Happy!  Becoming a mom is basically like being on a roller coaster.  The first time you meet your new baby it’s so surreal. You realize what a miracle the whole thing is and you can’t imagine how you can love someone so much.
4.     What was the hardest day you’ve had as a mom?
There are a lot of things about being a mom that are hard, but the worst day(s) for me were during life threatening situations. The two major spinal surgeries you went through were so hard and the day Marz was hit by a car going 40 miles an hour would have to be the times that rise to the surface as my hardest days as a mom.  There’s nothing worse than feeling helpless to take away the pain for your kids.
5.     What was the best day you’ve had as a mom?
There are so many best days!  One of the great things about having kids is watching them go through all the “firsts” and experiencing it with them. The best part is that this never stops. Baby milestones are so much fun of course but as they get older it’s things like having that first crush, learning to drive, graduations, first jobs, and there are a lot more of these to come!
6.     How did you end up with two kids that are so darn fabulous/awesome/amazing?
Haha, this is funny.  Raising kids is not easy.  You worry all the time that you’re not doing enough, or you’re doing too much. At the end of the day, you have to try your best to be a positive role model, provide guidance, set expectations and then hope for the best!  At the end of the day, a lot of it is out of your control so you have to accept it and just be there for your kids.
7.     Mother’s Day is coming up. What is your favorite way to celebrate?
I love to just spend time with my girls on Mother’s Day since they’re two of my favorite people in the world.  Gifts aren’t high on my list but hands down one of the best ever was the book they made a couple years ago with photo reenactments from when they were little to now being older.  Hilarious and so thoughtful! [NOTE: see below for the photo reenactments!]

Here's hoping this inspires you to do something similar for your mom this Mother's Day! FYI it's Sunday, May 14 this year (don't forget!)

  1. Great blog, especially the recreated pictures xD. I agree that that best thing for a mother is experiencing your child's first things with them, so heart warming. Btw your girls are really pretty. Happy mothers day xx.
